International Kawasaki Disease Symposium

The International Kawasaki Disease Symposium is held alternately in Japan and the United States once every two or three years. It is positioned as one of the programs being offered by the American Heart Association. The Symposium brings together physicians from Japan and the USA who represent a broad range of fields. They include pediatricians who specialize in Kawasaki disease, physicians who practice basic medicine such as pathology, epidemiology, microbiology and immunology, and cardiovascular surgeons and internists. The Symposium is held to provide a forum for these experts to report the results of their research on the basics and their clinical experience of Kawasaki disease, and to discuss various issues that arise.

Recently, the organizers have called on physicians not only from Japan and the USA, but also from Asian countries such as China, South Korea, Vietnam, India, Russia and Thailand, to ask them to report on conditions in their respective home countries. At the same time, the participants focus on and mutually validate matters on which a worldwide consensus has been obtained. Their ultimate goal is to save children all over the world from Kawasaki disease.
